Mark Prince (Fertile Ground\, Jennifer Holliday) has a unique style of drumming that can create heat with or without fire. Bassist Michael Bowie (Betty Carter\, Dee Dee Bridgewater) is a well-known educator and master of many musical forms. Saxophonist Marshall Keys’ dulcet tones and earthy compositions conjure the spirits of jazzmen past and future. From mainstream to contemporary\, from bebop to hip hop\, he plays the saxophone with a sense of grace and emotion that is wholly without cliché.

SUMMARY:Fighting Gravity
DESCRIPTION:Fighting Gravity (originally named Boy O Boy) was formed in the late 80’s at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Constant touring over the next two decades saw them rise from east coast college frat houses to spreading their unique blend of Ska\, Rock\, and World Beat music across the country and the world. \n\n\n\nAfter relocating to Richmond\, VA\, Fighting Gravity thrived in that robust local music scene\, creating a vast catalog of music with ten independent and one national label release (You and Everybody Else). Extensive touring\, with over 250 dates a year\, in support of these releases created a “live” experience second to none. \n\n\n\nIn 2017\, with a majority of its original members back\, Fighting Gravity returned to the stage again with a full horn section\, performing two nights at the historic National Theater in Richmond\, VA. Their triumphant homecoming was met with a loving response and Proclamation from the City of Richmond – “for their significant contribution to the music\, arts and culture scene\,” that named December 27\, 2017 as Fighting Gravity Day in the City of Richmond. \n\n\n\nThe band has since continued to perform a few select shows each year to the delight of the band and the audience members lucky enough to attend. And we have one of them in 2025! NOTE: this event will have strobe lights.

SUMMARY:Cowboy Mouth
DESCRIPTION:Much like gumbo\, the famous dish of their hometown\, the New Orleans-born Cowboy Mouth uses a potent blend of musical ingredients — rock\, blues\, punk\, funk\, country\, pop\, soul\, and whatever else feels good – to create their bodacious\, kickass tunes. Frontman\, drummer\, and co-founder Fred LeBlanc has asserted\, “If The Neville Brothers and The Clash had a baby\, it would be Cowboy Mouth.” His description not only reflects the group’s amazingly diverse sound\, but it also conveys the fire and commitment they bring to their music. \n\n\n\nCowboy Mouth has perfected their wonderfully rambunctious style over the band’s three decades together. During that time\, they have sold over a half a million albums domestically\, performed before more than 10 million people\, and played over 3\,000 concerts. These relentless road warriors built their reputation and developed their devoted fan base through powerhouse live performances (frequently averaging 250 gigs a year). “With every show\, no matter where it is\, we try to turn it into New Orleans during the middle of Mardi Gras\,” LeBlanc proclaims. “It’s like a southern gospel revival without the religion” – unless your religion is rock ‘n’ roll!

SUMMARY:Everything
DESCRIPTION:For the band Everything\, large-scale success came when they signed with indie label Blackbird\, which funded the recording of the Super Natural album\, and whose uplift venture with Sire/London eventually provided the radio and distribution muscle that got the breaking single\, Hooch\, to top radio stations around the world. Their peak of popularity came in 1998\, when Hooch was featured in Adam Sandler’s movie\, The Waterboy. From 1998 to 2000\, it charted in the top 10 on Billboard’s Pop and Hot AC charts\, as well as top 20 on the Modern Rock charts. The band reveled in their new-found popularity\, playing radio shows and festival crowds around the country. Hooch has been heard in episodes of My Name Is Earl\, Raising Hope\, Yes\, Dear\, and Clueless\, and also was featured on the soundtrack of the first season of the show Scrubs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented in partnership with \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Hospitality Sponsor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Accommodations Sponsor

Living in Nigeria\, Africa as a child\, and traveling the world as a musician\, Antoniuk became enthralled with the questions of how we learn\, what is innate\, and what inspires us to create. His studies\, research and insights have led to a rare ability as a musical coach and guide. Jeff has developed and served as Artistic Director on over 90 different workshops on specific jazz topics and conducted over 3000 jazz masterclasses in the last 18 years. As a performer and composer\, Antoniuk is heralded for his “considerable chops” (Jazz Times Magazine) and “a creative spark that never lets up\,” (Rochester City Paper). His recordings with Jeff Antoniuk & The Jazz Update\, Helluvaband and The MARS 4-tet have all received critical praise\, with appearances on the Jazz Top 40 charts. Also\, a busy sideman\, Jeff Antoniuk has played with or led bands with such luminaries as fellow saxophonists Ralph Bowen and Walt Weiskopf\, guitarists Tim Miller and Steve Rochiniski\, drummers Sherrie Maricle and Warren Wolf\, bassists Jimmy Haslip and Marcus Miller\, and trumpet players Tim Hagans and Ingrid Jensen.

SUMMARY:Lez Zeppelin
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2004 by New York guitarist\, Steph Paynes\, LEZ ZEPPELIN has since gained unanimous critical acclaim as one of the most exciting live acts around\, becoming the first all-female rock act to pay homage to Led Zeppelin. LEZ ZEPPELIN stays true to the musically audacious spirit of the original\, delivering the legendary rock band’s blistering arrangements and monstrous sound note-for-note at sold-out frenzied shows around the world. In June 2013\, Jimmy Page attended their show in London and said of the group\, “They played the Led Zeppelin music with an extraordinary sensuality and an energy and passion that highlighted their superb musicianship.” \n\n\n\nThe thing that sets LEZ ZEPPELIN apart is the seamless and unique way they inject their gender-bending performance into the original material. They have been featured on major television\, including the BBC\, CNN\, ABC\, CBS\, MTV\, VH-1\, and FOX\, and radio shows worldwide\, such as Sirius XM and NPR. The group’s first studio album\, Lez Zeppelin\, was produced by legendary producer/engineer\, Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin\, Jimi Hendrix). The group’s second LP\, Lez Zeppelin I\, is an authentic re-make of Led Zeppelin’s first album\, using the very same vintage equipment employed by Led in 1968. Lez Zeppelin also recorded a holiday song\, Mystic Snowman\, a wry mash-up of Stairway and Frosty the Snowman. The group just released its third album\, The Island of Skyros\, which features the band in full force with the addition of a string section. All records are distributed in the United States\, Japan\, and Europe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented in partnership with \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Hospitality Sponsor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Accommodations Sponsor

DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHost Sponsor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Hospitality Sponsor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVocalist Tania Grubbs doesn’t just sing nice songs. She crafts stories out of well-chosen songs with love and care – and she lets the listener feel the spirit behind each note. Her voice is an integral instrument in a quintet of equals\, a guiding thread that weaves everyone together whether singing a warm\, engaging note\, a challenging phrase\, an especially stirring arrangement\, a soulful turn\, or hopeful sentiment. She is a graduate of Youngstown State University. While a student there\, she engaged herself in learning about jazz\, starting with the classic American Songbook under the mentorships of jazz studies professor Tony Leonardi. While workshopping tunes\, gigging\, and participating in jam sessions\, Tania met her husband\, bassist-Jeff Grubbs\, on the bandstand.    \n\n\n\nJeff’s orchestral career landed the couple in Fort Lauderdale\, Florida\, where they lived for five years. While there\, Tania’s musical journey gave her opportunities to sing in many jazz clubs\, performed in numerous concert settings and theatre productions. Tania was a featured vocalist with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Voices of the Boca Pops Orchestra. Then\, in 1996\, Jeff joined the bass section of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.   Since living in Pittsburgh\, Tania has been a four-time recipient of the Ready for Life Grants\, founded by the Heinz Foundation. She has also been a featured vocalist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra\, Civic Light Opera\, Chamber Music Pittsburgh\, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust\, Pittsburgh Jazz Society\, West Virginia Jazz Society\, WD Packard Concert and Jazz Orchestra. In 2019 she was featured as a guest soloist with the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia. Tania also acted as Co-Music Director at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel overseeing Jazz at Andys for over 10yrs\, and she is an advocate helping to cultivate jazz in Pittsburgh and beyond.
